Our Aviary Policy

Our Aviary Policy and Purchase Contract

Right to Refuse Sale

Peachy Keen Aviary reserves the right to refuse a sale to anyone if we have concerns about the suitability of a bird’s potential home or care. Our birds’ safety and well-being always come first.

Bird Availability

  • We do not sell unweaned chicks or fertile eggs under any circumstances.
  • Chicks are typically ready to go between 8–12 weeks old, depending on species and individual needs.
  • We do not maintain a waitlist. Available birds are listed on our website and removed once sold.

Deposits & Payments

  • Birds will not be held without a 50% deposit of the purchase price.
  • Purchases are non-refundable, so please be certain before placing one.
  • Any remaining balance is due on or before pickup. Failure to pay in full by that time will result in forfeiture of the bird and the deposit.
  • If anything happens to the bird before pickup (illness, injury, or death), all monies paid will be refunded in full.
  • If we ever decide not to proceed with a sale or choose to keep the bird ourselves, we will refund all payments within 48 hours of notifying you.

Pricing

All prices are firm unless reduced at our discretion.

Transport & Delivery

  • Please bring your own carrier. If needed, we can provide a one-time-use cardboard carrier for your bird.
  • Delivery between Courtenay and Nanaimo is available for a $60 flat fee.
  • Harbour Air shipping to the Lower Mainland is available for $120, including carrier, terminal transport, and airline fees.
  • We do not offer long-distance shipping, as we’ve experienced airline negligence that endangered our birds.
  • Birds must be picked up within 10 calendar days of weaning or purchase (whichever comes last) unless otherwise agreed upon.
    • Failure to do so will result in a $10/day boarding fee starting on day 11.

Health Guarantee

We guarantee that every bird leaves our aviary in good health.

We strongly encourage buyers to have their bird examined by a Licensed Avian Veterinarian within 48 hours of pickup or delivery. If, within that period, the veterinarian finds a genetic condition that affects the bird’s health, and this is confirmed by Peachy Keen Aviary:

  • You may return the bird for either:
    1. A full refund, or
    2. A replacement bird of the same species, sex (if known), and age.
(Replacement birds will also fall under this same contract.)

If the bird passes away within 48 hours, a necropsy by a Licensed Avian Veterinarian is required. A refund (excluding shipping) will be issued only if the necropsy confirms a genetic cause. No refund or replacement will be given if death or illness is caused by:

  • Buyer negligence or unsafe environmental conditions (smoke, fumes, chemical cleaners, air fresheners, essential oils, etc.), or
  • Trauma, stress, or illness resulting from transport (ground or air).

If no vet exam is done within 48 hours, the sale is considered “as is”, and all warranties—express or implied—are void after that time.

Identification & Support

Each bird leaves our aviary with a closed leg band for identification.

If the band is removed for any reason:

  • We can no longer provide advice, support, or records for that bird.
  • If removal is required for medical reasons, please keep the band and provide vet documentation so we can continue supporting you.

Lifetime Support

When you purchase a bird from Peachy Keen Aviary, you become part of our extended flock family! We offer lifetime support for every bird we raise. You’re always welcome to reach out with questions about diet, behaviour, enrichment, or health. We love hearing updates and helping ensure your bird has the best, happiest life possible.
